 Southwest New Mexico
is the only United States location where you can apply for and hunt
for a free roaming Persian Ibex Trophy.
Since their introduction into the Florida Mountains of Southwest
New Mexico, in the early 1970's, these Persian Ibex have adapted very
well to this rugged mountain and desert terrain. The New Mexico
lottery draw system currently offers Youth, Archery, Muzzleloader and
Rifle Ibex Hunts, within their application process.
A good trophy will have 40 inch or longer horns, on an animal that
stands just 30 inches in height and is 4 to 5 foot long. The ABOVE
PICTURED BILLY HAD 50 3/4" LONG HORNS.
This Ibex SCI officially scored 117 2/8 which will
place it as #4, of the Persian Ibex ever harvested from the Florida Mountains, since
their introduction into New Mexico.
Because this incredible species defies gravity and dwells around and on
the steep mountain cliffs to avoid its natural predators, (Mountain
Lions & Eagles), Howell Wildlife Outfitters would like to advise
you that Ibex Hunts can be a VERY STRENUOUS and PHYSICAL HUNT!
So.... please take that into consideration when considering this hunt
application. You must be able to hike, climb, mentally endure and
proficiently shoot in mountainous desert terrain. FYI: Archery Ibex
Hunts are, of course, the MOST DIFFICULT but offer the BEST DRAW
PERCENTAGE RATES.
